Congratulations to Barb Fletcher of Chesterfield, NH — the winner of our second annual Shift Your Shopping Spree.  Barb will receive $500 in gift certificates from her choice of Monadnock Buy Local member businesses.  Her winning receipt was from Your Kitchen Store in Keene, NH.


This contest was part of the Shift Your Shopping annual campaign sponsored by Monadnock Buy Local which encourages residents to shop at locally owned businesses during the holidays to grow our local economy and strengthen our community.  Nearly 860 receipts were collected from 327 individuals totaling $62,743 in local purchases.

From TEAM Jaffrey

Despite the absence of snow, twenty spirited downtown Jaffrey businesses have Decked the Halls to welcome visitors, shoppers, and lovers of all things local to shift their shopping this holiday season. TEAM Jaffrey, an independent non profit devoted to enhancing, improving, and revitalizing downtown Jaffrey, is holding a “Holiday Display Contest” for downtown businesses and organizations in the hopes of welcoming more patrons and visitors to experience and support local, family-owned businesses.

Visitors from near and far are invited to visit, view, and vote for their favorite display of the season including display entries of windows, lobbies, and exteriors. Votes will be counted through December 22nd, and the winner will be announced just before Christmas.  The displays will be up through January 1st, 2016 for all to enjoy.

Folks may vote by paper ballot in person at Jaffrey Public Library, TD Bank, and People’s United Bank or vote via Facebook.

On #GivingTuesday, we are supporting the Monadnock United Way’s goal to raise $5,000 in just one day! This challenge runs for 24-hours, from 12:01 AM until midnight on December 1, 2015.  Donate as an individual or donate through Monadnock Buy Local’s page. It doesn’t matter how much you give, $1 or $10 or $100 or more, any amount is appreciated!1430

We love to boast about the positive impacts locally owned businesses have on our community — like how much they contribute to nonprofits.  #GivingTuesday is the perfect day to shine a light on the fact that small businesses donate more than double as much per sales dollar to charities, compared to big businesses.

What if we could aggregate donations from individual independent businesses to show just how big of an impact Monadnock Buy Local member’s have on our local nonprofits?  The Monadnock United Way and the Saving Bank of Walpole are collaborating with us to do just that.

The Monadnock United Way calculated that Monadnock Buy Local members collectively donated over $160,000 to their fundraising campaign this year.  The Savings Bank of Walpole created an advertisement to promote this number and the message that supporting locally owned businesses increases charitable donations in our community.
