ABOUT PLAID FRIDAY
Plaid Friday celebrates the diversity and creativity of local and independent businesses. It’s a fun and enjoyable alternative to the big box store “Black Friday” consumer frenzy. Also, it’s a way to show your support for Monadnock Buy Local – a network of locally-owned businesses, organizations and citizens working to build a stronger local economy. So plan to wear PLAID all day on Plaid Friday!
Hubs will photograph customers decked out in plaid and answer questions about Plaid Friday and Monadnock Buy Local on November 27th.
Plaid Friday was created in Oakland, CA to bring back the times when shopping for friends and family was a pleasurable leisurely activity. Now it is celebrated throughout the nation as a kick-off event to the Shift Your Shopping Campaign.
Show your support! Wear plaid while shopping on November 27th.

I participated in Plaid Friday for the past few years and it’s just wonderful. While half the nation was fighting for parking spaces and spraying each other with pepper spray at the mall I strolled along beautiful Main St. in Keene, and found great buys on some really beautiful and unique gifts at nearly every store. In one store, where I was looking for a gift for my daughter, the clerk noticed that I walk with a cane. She got a chair for me, asked me some questions about my daughter’s size and preferences, and then ran all over the store bringing me items to consider in all price ranges. When I was debating between a sweater and an jacket, she offered to model them so I could see what they would look like when worn. When I decided to buy both, she carried them up to the register for me, gift wrapped them, and even put them into a free tote bag so I could carry the packages more easily. Then she held the door for me as I left, and gave me directions to a competitor where she thought I might find an item that she didn’t carry. Try having an experience like that at Walmart! And after shopping and a delicious meal at a local restaurant where there was no wait to be seated, I got to enjoy caroling and the tree lighting ceremony on the green instead of sitting in traffic. I no longer live in Keene (unfortunately), but I’m making the trip back just to enjoy another Plaid Friday.
Thank you for sharing your experience! And have a great day in Keene!
Love the Herb Barn Products and the extra products she carries at Christmas. Will be able to do a lot of shopping today, worth the ride to Richmond! This day helps us support our local businesses. I have yet go buy a box store gift this year !! Thank you.
Thank you!!!!
